Weed Shastina

  • College of the Siskiyous (map)

A slight twist on an old favorite Honey Badger Route. This one still starts and finishes in Weed, but uses a slightly different route than the original classic. No more crossing highway 97 and going down Hoy Rd, this route will use Edgewood Rd and Old Edgewood Rd for the egress to and from Weed. The famed Jeep Rd section of E Louie Rd is on the docket as well. If you did the shortened Shasta Gravel Hugger this year and missed both of those sections they’re back for this Honey Badger Ride. The biggest change from the original route is the return to Weed through the community of Shastina. You’ll pass right next to Shastina Lake and through the Mill Fire burn scar. Pay attention your GPS when going through Shastina as there are some tricky turns to link up. After Shastina, you’ll pop back into Weed and hopefully regale your fellow riders back at the Weed Brewery. Park at the parking lot next to the brewery at the College Of The Siskiyous. That way we don’t clog their lot while we’re off knocking around on gravel. Here’s a link to the RideWithGPS course. Ride leaves at 10. It’s about 48 miles and 2300ft of elevation. I would choose a tire above a 36cm for this route. The gravel is usually pretty good but can be soft if there’s been rain/snow (there’s been plenty of that lately!) and the Jeep Rd is rough, muddy, and has deep sand on it. Plus the pavement is often chunkier than the dirt!
